Meet Emilie - Thoughtful Colour, Lived-In Luxury, and Hair That Feels Like You at The Grove Salon.

Updated: Apr 22

Vancouver hairstylist, Emilie at The Grove Salon.

Where It Started

Emilie is a Vancouver lived-in colour hairstylist known for soft dimension and natural results. She joined The Grove in 2020, shortly after returning from maternity leave. At that time, finding the right environment mattered.

“I wanted to find a salon that felt contemporary but still very welcoming,” she shares. “It meant so much to me to create a schedule that worked for my family.”

That balance still shapes how she works today, allowing her to grow her clientele in a way that feels steady and sustainable. Her interest in hair started early. As a teenager, she was already cutting and colouring her own hair, and helping her mom and sister.

After completing a BFA in Painting, she knew she wanted to keep creating with her hands, but in a more connected way. “I remember getting my hair done at a school in Melbourne and thinking, I could do this. It had the right mix of creativity and connection.”

Services & Style

Emilie’s work begins with understanding the person in front of her.“I try to understand a client’s wishes and personality, and then come up with ideas that fit who they are — and a little of who they’d like to be.” Her aesthetic is best described as natural, lived-in luxury. Hair that feels elevated, but never overdone.

She’s especially drawn to colour, including multidimensional highlights, soft blondes, bright coppers, and rich brunettes. What she finds most rewarding, though, are the subtle transformations. “The most rewarding changes are the subtle ones. The kind that don’t feel overdone — just right.”

When clients sit in her chair, the goal is simple. “I want people to feel at ease. Like they’ve reached the sweet part of their day.”

Behind the scenes, she’s consistently refining her work through education and new techniques. “I’m always learning,” she says. “Trying different approaches so I can keep growing.”

Products & Approach

Emilie has worked with Kevin Murphy since 2010 and values the flexibility it brings to her work. “It gives you the range to create everything from soft glossing to vibrant colour, while still keeping the hair looking natural.”

She’s especially drawn to the lightweight feel of the products and how they absorb into the hair. One service she often recommends is glossing. “Glossing is something I wish more clients knew about. It’s the perfect combination of a treatment and a colour refresh.”

When it comes to at-home care, her advice is simple. “Using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type makes such a difference.”

Growth & Inspiration

Since joining The Grove, Emilie feels her work has deepened, especially in colour. “Working with Kevin Murphy colour has really inspired my work. It allows for results that feel vibrant but still very natural.”

Right now, she’s focused on expanding her work with coppers, reds, and multidimensional colour. She’s also recently incorporated razor cutting into her work after completing a course with Jayne Edo, bringing more softness and movement into her cuts.

Life Outside the Salon

Outside of the salon, Emilie leans into simple, grounding routines. A perfect day off often includes coffee and dessert with a friend, while evenings tend to be quieter with baking, movies, or time at home.

Lately, she’s been listening to a lot of Lady Gaga and continues to find inspiration through film and music.

If she weren’t a stylist, she could easily see herself teaching art.

At home, she shares life with her two dogs — a chihuahua and a cavapoo — and finds joy in getting outside and staying active.

When asked how her friends would describe her, her answer is simple. Kind, thoughtful, and empathetic.
