Emily: Advanced Stylist at The Grove Vancouver
Emily joined The Grove Salon in 2020 as a junior stylist and has since grown into an advanced stylist, continuing her journey toward becoming a Master Stylist. Her work is grounded in curiosity, intention, and a deep respect for both the science and art of hair.

Growing up with a mom who is also a hairstylist, Emily spent much of her childhood in salons. Being immersed in that environment gave her early insight into the inner workings of the industry and sparked a curiosity that eventually turned into a career.
“There wasn’t so much a moment but a collection of small ones.”
Approach & Client Care
Emily’s approach to hair is gentle, considerate, and educational. She believes understanding the why behind hair care is just as important as the end result. Every appointment is rooted in collaboration, with a focus on texture, lifestyle, and personal expression.
“I want clients to feel like they have a space to co-create how they want to be seen without any judgment or chaos that everyday life can bring.”
Behind the scenes, Emily is constantly researching and seeking out experiences that deepen her understanding of the industry.
“Hair to me is live chemistry, geometry, creation, and conversation.”
Services & Signature Style
Emily is especially drawn to curly cuts, glosses, and colour services. One of her favourite transformations is helping clients see their curls’ true potential—often unlocking texture they didn’t realize they had.
“When my client sees their curls’ true potential, that’s pretty top tier.”
For styling, she’s currently loving brushed-out curls with a boar bristle brush, creating a soft, romantic finish with a subtle Renaissance feel. Emily describes her style as multifaceted and avoids being boxed into one aesthetic, instead balancing preference, lifestyle, and texture in every look.

Products, Treatments & Hair Health
Emily loves working with Kevin Murphy colour and styling products for their philosophy, editorial background, and philanthropic values. She appreciates knowing the products she uses are designed to work together while being less harmful to hair long term. Her everyday staples include Smooth.Again and Killer.Twirls.
She also enjoys the versatility of Alcove Haircare, especially how easily the products can be cock-tailed. Emily often recommends Alcove to clients with low-textured hair and hair that isn’t chemically
treated. When it comes to hair health, Emily considers Oligo treatments essential—especially when working with services that affect the hair’s internal structure.
“Since we are breaking down bonds, it makes perfect sense to use a product that replaces what we’ve affected.”
If a client could take home just one product, Emily recommends Staying.Alive, a leave-in conditioner that supports elasticity and helps prevent breakage.
Growth & Continuing Education
Since joining The Grove, Emily feels she has found her rhythm. Her work is now grounded in strong, adaptable techniques shaped by the talented stylists she’s learned from and the experience she’s gained along the way.
One of her proudest areas of growth has been cutting—once a challenge, now one of her strongest skills.
Looking ahead, Emily is excited to lean back into colour and continue growing in every aspect of her craft. She’s also hoping to pursue a trichology certification focused on scalp health, allowing her to better support clients dealing with scalp concerns—an area she feels is often overlooked.
Life Beyond the Salon

Outside the salon, Emily’s creativity continues through drawing, painting, and pottery. A perfect day off might include paddle boarding in Deep Cove, sketching by the water, keeping an eye out for sea lions, fish and chips, something sweet, and finishing the day with sunset at Whytecliff Park with her fiancé.
Her playlists are currently filled with Olivia Dean and 2016 throwbacks. Her favourite book is The Glass Castle, and travel is a huge source of inspiration—especially Piran, Slovenia, where she got engaged and considers her forever favourite.
